Sports Videography, Explained
What a Sports Videographer Does
A sports videographer films and edits video of athletes, teams and events. The camera work is only half of it. The other half is knowing the sport well enough to read the play before it develops, so the dunk, the pick-six or the walk-off is in frame when it happens, and knowing what the person watching the final cut actually needs to see.
That person changes from job to job. A college coach watching a recruiting film wants your position skills in the first 20 to 30 seconds. A tournament organizer wants a recap that makes next year's event sell itself. A brand wants an athlete on camera who looks like the star of a national campaign. Good sports videography is built backwards from that viewer.
Mack Media started in 2017 filming AAU basketball as Hoop Editz, and the same sports-first crew now covers Nike EYBL, the Big Ten Conference and the CFP National Championship. Read our complete guide to sports videography for the full breakdown.
